School's lighting renovation

Jyskä School has received a fresh new look as a result of lighting renovation carried out in its interiors. Jyskä is a traditional primary school building and daycare centre that will be 70 years old next year. The oldest part of the building was completed in 1948 and was extended in two stages in 1962 and 1991. Now, in autumn 2017, at the same time as general renovation of the school premises, the lighting is being completely revamped to meet modern standards of safety and energy efficiency.

Safety through lighting

In conjunction with the renovation, some of the luminaires were replaced simply by exchanging them for modern LED luminaires, which provide plenty of clean white light. In a manner typical of renovation sites, there were restrictions on some luminaires in terms of the size of the recess openings and method of installation, among other things.

In the corridors and stairwells of school premises, sufficient and glare-free light is an important safety issue, because corridors are sometimes congested and serve as exit routes. Low-profile, recess-mounted 4000 K Plata luminaires were selected for both the lobby and the classrooms. Round, recess-mounted Flat panel luminaires were also selected for the corridors, on the lower surface of the suspended ceilings.

Lighting opens up space

In the lobby, rectangular Dora luminaires highlight the room's vertical lines and illuminate the higher parts of the lobby better than before. Dora is coated with a polyester paint that is highly resistant to corrosion and UV radiation, and is also suitable for outdoor use.

The wall luminaires in the lobby were exchanged for plant lamps with E27 sockets, whose radiation has been optimised to the wavelengths required by plants. The light emitted by the LED plant lamp efficiently promotes photosynthesis, is an aesthetically pleasing solution but does not needlessly heat up the plants.

Optimisation through Dialux calculation

In the gymnasium, a Dialux calculation was made to ensure optimisation of the level of lighting. For the room, the Sport luminaire was chosen, which meets the requirements for sport and emits high-quality, even light. The steel-bodied Sport luminaires are extremely suitable as surface mountings in rooms that have been renovated. The luminaires have a bright-anodised aluminium reflector.
