Lighting for a children’s room

Lighting for a children’s room

A child’s bedroom typically does double duty as a playroom, and the level of general lighting should be higher than in an adult’s bedroom. Alertness levels can be influenced by adjustments to the light’s colour temperature.

A child’s bedroom typically does double duty as a playroom, and the level of general lighting should be higher than in an adult’s bedroom. Smaller children typically play on the floor. Because of this, glare-free light must reach the floor level. A ceiling luminaire is a good solution but it does not suffice on its own. It should be complemented with table lamps, wall luminaires and nightlights.

Ceiling luminaires offer even and glare-free illumination. Many of them come with a wireless control system, which enables you to dim the light or change its colour temperature. With bright, white light during the daytime, you can increase wakefulness for doing homework and playing. A warmer colour temperature prepares our brains and bodies for sleep.

Sufficient illumination for the desk

The desk in the children’s room should be illuminated by an efficient desk lamp. Our desk lamp ranges include freestanding and clamp-on models. Articulated luminaires with a swivelling shade are adjustable and lend themselves to many uses. Some models are equipped with a USB port for charging mobile phones or other devices. Many of the luminaires are fully adjustable, enabling you to dim the light or change the colour temperature from warm white to bright white or daylight. Try out adjustable smart lamps in the luminaires that are compatible with them.

A spotlight by the head of the bed

Fix a clamp-on luminaire or wall-mounted one by the headboard of the bed and save space on the table. A reading light creates a safe and cosy atmosphere for those moments before sleep. Select a lamp with a warm colour temperature to send a signal to the body that it is time to prepare for rest.

Do your children share a bedroom? Select a luminaire with an articulated arm or swivelling shade and a narrow beam as a reading light. This affords great adjustability in the direction of light and prevents glare from disturbing the other child’s sleep.

Use light as an interior design element

Sparkles of light add joy to everyday life. Transform your children’s room into a magical experience with decorative lights. Because LEDs do not heat up, you can use them with flammable materials. However, pay attention to safety in the children’s room and only use decorative lights once your child is old enough to understand that the lights are not a toy. Use timers to switch the lights on and off at the correct time.

A sense of safety with nightlights

General lighting luminaires should not be switched on during the night. Light increases alertness levels and the child may find it difficult to go back to sleep. Nightlights bring a feeling of safety. They bring enough light to keep monsters away and illuminate access routes. Nightlights are equipped either with a conventional on/off switch, photoelectric switch or motion detector. Mount the nightlight in a place where it does not disturb your child’s sleep.
